CAMERON (December 18, 2012)—Marvin Charles Williams, 44, of Cameron, was in the Milam County Jail Tuesday facing a list of charges after a theft suspect armed with a box cutter struggled with a Cameron police officer.
Police earlier identified the man as Marvin Charles Davis, but issued a corrected press release on Wednesday.
Officer Ana Lumbreras responded to a report of a theft in progress Tuesday at Mike’s Convenience Store at 1003 North 4th St. where a man armed with a box cutter had threatened the clerk.
When she arrived at the store, she attempted to arrest the man, who ran, police said.
She gave chase and used her Taser in an attempt to subdue the man without success, police said.
Then the man tried to take her Taser away from her.
A second officer, Shelia Sager, arrived and joined the struggle.
She also used her Taser in an attempt to subdue the man who was finally taken into custody with the help of a Milam County sheriff’s deputy.
Lumbreras received minor injuries in the scuffle, but did not require medical attention.
Davis was charged with evading arrest or detention, tampering with evidence, attempting to take a weapon away from a peace officer and resisting arrest, police said.
