CAMERON (September 11, 2012)--Cameron ISD has received nearly $50,000 in grant money to spend on new technology.

The Technology Lending Program Grant was created to award funds to school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to implement or enhance an existing technology lending program to loan students the equipment necessary to access and use electronic instructional materials, the Region 10 Education Service Center’s website says.

The applicants were required to have a minimum of 40 percent of their students classify as economically disadvantaged in order to be reviewed and was also required to have a Technology Plan on file as approved or in process with TEA.

The $49,816 will be used to issue 8th graders a Chromebook, which is a personal computer that runs on Google Chrome OS.

They will also be able to give 24-hour access to online learning resources, thanks to the grant.

“We are really excited for the opportunity to better serve our students,” a district spokesperson said.
