LAMPASAS COUNTY (November 12, 2012)--An elderly woman whom firefighters rescued form her burning house Monday morning was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Firefighter Calvin Sweet said Kempner Volunteer firefighters were sent just before 6:45 a.m. Monday to the house at 3275 Farm-to-Market Road 2808 in response to a report of a fire with a woman trapped inside.

Kempner VFD requested aid from nearby Copperas Cove.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, about 4 miles southeast of Kempner, they were able to get the woman out quickly, a spokesman for the Lampasas County Sheriff's Office said.

The house, a two-story frame home, belongs to Jerry Jewell, who is the pastor at Kempner's Living Hope Baptist Church.

The woman, who is Jewell' mother, was taken by ambulance to Metroplex Hospital, in Killeen, for evaluation, Sweet said.

Sweet said the fire itself was contained to one downstairs room and two rooms upstairs, but the rest of the home suffered significant smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.

Sweet said firefighters had the blaze out within about an hour.
