COPPERAS COVE (February 15, 2013)—A woman who was shot by a Copperas Cove police officer in January was jailed Friday, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a public servant.

Amanda Jackel, 22, was arrested Thursday after she was released from a local hospital where she was treated for her wounds.

Officer Christian Suess shot Jackel on Jan. 19 after responding to a report of a suicidal woman at a mobile home park at 1204 West Ave. B.

Suess made contact with the woman identified in an arrest warrant affidavit as Jackel who made several suicide threats as he attempted to talk to her.

“If you don’t shoot me, I’m going to kill you,” she said, according to the affidavit.

“I’m going to die tonight.”

“If you come into my trailer, I’m going to shoot you and then shoot myself,” she said, according to the affidavit.

After several minutes, Jackel left the room holding a knife and walked toward the officer, the affidavit said, ignoring orders to drop the weapon.

Seuss fired three times and Jackel fell to the ground, the affidavit said.

Jackel was taken to a hospital.

Copperas Cove police declined to comment on the incident Friday.

Until the release of the affidavit Friday, no information about the shooting had been made public.

It was the first of two officer-involved shootings in Copperas Cove this year.

On Feb. 2, Kristofer Gagliardi, 24, died after he was shot in the chest in front of him home by a Copperas Cover police officer.

That incident remains under investigation as Texas Rangers are waiting for the ballistics report to come back before making a final report.
