Copperas Cove (October 1, 2012)--Police are investigating a weekend tire-slashing spree at the Casa Apartments at 610 Casa Dr. in Copperas Cove.
Residents woke up Saturday to find a total of 11 slashed tires this weekend.
"It has been pretty quiet the last four months and then I woke up Saturday morning, and my tires were slashed," said resident Elizabeth Waldroup.
"It was a real shock, and it made us all kind of wonder what other stuff could happen."
"This is very upsetting and disappointing," said Elvis Negron, who had all four tires damaged.
"Some people are childish and have no idea what they're doing."
Residents have turned their frustration and disappointment into a way to help one another.
"When tires get slashed, it is money out of other people's pockets," said Rocky Alcorn, who wasn’t a victim of the weekend vandalism.
"Just hope it doesn't happen to you and feel bad for who it does happen to,” he said.
Several residents are now taking turns keeping an eye on the parking lot at night.
Those with tires still intact are helping those left with damaged tires get around.
According to police reports, the value of the damaged tires totaled about $1,500.
The owner of the complex said it was the first such incident in the five years she’s owned the apartments.
