COPPERAS COVE (June 13, 2012)-A yard sale this weekend will benefit a girl who recently learned that she has bone cancer.
Alyssa Ranard, a 10-year-old student at Martin Walker Elementary, was diagnosed with metastatic osteosarcoma, a condition in which a tumor spreads from the initially affected bone to one or more sites in the body.
According to a family member, her symptoms began with body aches.
The diagnosis came just before the start of summer vacation.
Her teachers organized the yard sale on Friday and Saturday at 329 Skyline Dr.
T-shirts and jewelry will also be sold and the proceeds will be used to help offset her medical expenses.
Alyssa has decided that she wants to become a nurse.
