COPPERAS COVE (October 4, 2012)—Copperas Cove Fire Chief Sean Hughes is quitting after five months on the job.

Cove Mayor John Hull confirmed Thursday that Hughes turned in his resignation earlier this week, citing personal reasons.

Hull said the city will begin the process of hiring a replacement, but had not details on when it would start.

"It's just one of those things I guess he wasn't satisfied but we'll find someone to replace him," Hull said.

City and fire department officials have been working on a plan to reorganize the fire department and Hull said the resignation shouldn't delay that process.

Cove hired Hughes in March from a field of 30 applicants to replace Mike Baker, who announced his retirement in February.

Hughes came from the North Richland Hills Fire Department where he served nearly 30 years as an emergency responder and emergency management coordinator.
