COPPERAS COVE (December 5, 2012)—A police K-9 unit greeted students Wednesday morning as they arrived at Copperas Cove Junior High School after a bomb threat was found Tuesday written on a wall in a restroom.

As students entered the school Wednesday, all of their belongings were checked for threatening devices in a process that was completed by around 9 a.m.

Parents and guardians will be notified through letters and phone messages and classes will continue as usual Wednesday, the school district said.

Police swarmed the school at 702 Sunny Ave. after a student discovered the threat on the restroom wall in the 200 wing of the building following dismissal of classes Tuesday.

The district didn’t disclose the full content of the message, but said it indicated there would be a bomb in the school Wednesday.

Officers and a police K-9 unit searched the school until around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, found no evidence of any threatening device and cleared the building for classes Wednesday.

Officials are asking that anyone with information about the threat contact either the school district or Copperas Cove Crime Stoppers.

The incident was the second at a junior high school in the district in a week.

On Nov. 28 school officials found a Glock .40 caliber handgun and a magazine containing 11 rounds of ammunition in the locker of an eighth grade boy at S.C. Lee Junior High School.

Copperas Cove police arrested the 13-year-old student after the gun was found in a backpack inside the boy’s locker, the Copperas Cove ISD said in a press release.

Information from other students led to the search of the boy’s locker, the district said.

The gun was secured, the student was isolated and police were called, the district said.

No one was hurt.
