COPPERAS COVE (January 8, 2012)--The new 125-acre Five Hills Shopping Center's first phase of construction will be completed this month, bringing dozens of businesses and hundreds of job.

The shopping plaza, that's big enough to fit a neighborhood subdivision, plans to hold about 70 businesses when it's completed in the next few years.

The Five Hills Shopping Center's first business to open is Whataburger, bringing in more than fifty jobs this month.

Then, it's H-E-B Plus next month with more than 300 jobs.

Farther down the road are Chick-Fil-A, Panda Express, Chili's and much more.

One nearby resident said she's excited about the development for many reasons.

"My husband's job slowed down enough that we're feeling the pinch, and it's time for me to see if I can help out," Marsha Norris said.

Norris is from Lampasas and drives about 15 miles to Copperas Cove to shop at HEB and other stores her hometown doesn't have.

"I'm keeping my options open and seeing what businesses will be in that community," Norris said.

Betty Price with the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce says it all has to do with the city's neighbor.

"One of the things that we capitalize on is Fort Hood," Price said.

"When we have people that come in and need our services, we don't suffer like other cities that you see across our nation."

The city of Copperas Cove has a population of 32,000 and growing.
