(February 27, 2013)--Funding has been made available for organizations seeking to help veterans and their families but they need to act fast to be approved.
The Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) opened the application period in late January and has set a deadline of Thursday at 4 p.m.
$3 million in grants will be distributed based on the need and priority.
Money can be used to provide veterans and their families housing, counseling, financial assistance and other helpful services.
Eligible grant applicants are local governments, posts or organizations of past or present members of the Armed Forces, private nonprofit corporations that conduct business in the state and Texas chapters of veterans’ service organizations.
The Texas Lottery scratch-off game “Veterans Cash” is the primary funding source and has generated millions of dollars for the veterans’ assistance fund since it was first introduced in November of 2009.
