FORT HOOD (November 21, 2012)--More than 3,500 children will benefit from the opening of Santa’s Workshop, a nonprofit group that provides new toys to military children.

Military families were asked to submit an application to take part in picking out two toys per child.

About 1,650 families will be helped this year and about $42 worth of toys is distributed per child, a spokesperson said.

“The group was originated exclusively for charitable purposes as a unit-level (13th COSCOM) initiative. Out of necessity, it grew into an installation-level project in 1998,” a spokesperson wrote on their website.

Pre-approved parents will have an opportunity to browse shelves for the toys that best fit their child’s needs.

The shop is located inside the Fort Hood Tax Center, to the right of the entrance to the Clear Creek Commissary Building.
