COPPERAS COVE (January 17, 2013)--A Fort Hood soldier died late Wednesday night after he was thrown from a motorcycle he was riding just south of Copperas Cove.

Bell County Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced James Ryan Kurth, 26, dead at the scene at around 11 p.m. Wednesday about three miles south of Copperas Cove on Farm-to-Market Road 116, just inside the Bell County line.

An investigating Department of Public Safety trooper said Kurth was riding a 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on FM 116 when he lost control of the cycle in a curve, left the roadway and was thrown from the bike.

Kurth, according to the DPS report, was not wearing a helmet.

Kurth's body was taken to Central Texas Mortuary, but it was not known if Cooke ordered an autopsy.

Kurth was a Fort Hood soldier from Corpus Christi who joined the Army in 2004 and deployed to Iraq from October 2005 to September 2006 and from November 2007 to February 2009.

At the time of his death he was assigned to the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.
