GATESVILLE (September 14, 2010)--A two-vehicle head on collision Tuesday night north of Gatesville on Texas Highway 36 injured two people and forced closure of the highway for almost an hour.

A helicopter was sent to the scene to evacuate one victim who was flown to Scott and White Hospital in Temple suffering from unknown injuries.

A second victim was taken to Scott and White Hospital by Ft. Hood EMS in undisclosed condition.

Investigators believe a north bound pick up truck was attempting to pass another north bound vehicle and was unable to get back into its lane before it struck a south bound pick up.

Both vehicles were occupied only by their drivers.

The accident happened about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday some 4 miles north of Gatesville.

DPS had the highway back to normal traffic shortly after 9 p.m.

The names of those injured were not disclosed.

Interesting the way this story has progressed. The original article didn't mention a tractor but (if you read the comments) everyone has decided he was in a hurry, passing a tractor with no lights or warnings and he hit another car going in the opposite direction. Did anyone stop to think that IF it were a "slow moving vehicle" that he was passing that he could have just applied brakes and gotten behind him or even sped up to get in front?? How do you know there was even a tractor involved? How do you know he was in a hurry? I know . . . you were ALL there! I hope the people involved are all going to recover. I'm amazed at how many people are "authorities" on EVERY story EVEN THOUGH they weren't there and don't know anyone involved. Do you EVEN have any idea where this road IS??? I'm willing to bet you don't know that either.

What Hank is trying to say is that Texans are inconsiderate and selfish. I have lived here all my life and see every single day Stuid people can be. Waco especially. What happened to morals and accountability? Oh but your president is going to change all of that huh? This country is only a couple of hundred years old and it is on the down hill slide straight to hell. I work my rear off to have what I have while OTHERS sit on their rears claiming to have a disability so we (the TAX PAYERS) can support them. We have children who are have to try to be the adults because their parents (if the know who they are) are acting like the children. thsi is an unfortunate situation and I pray for this family. Lord help us!!

I know for a fact that all slow moving vehicles are required by law to have SMV reflector on the back, which this tractor did, and furthermore the tractor operator did have all headlights, tailights and flashers on. Some people just need to slow down a few seconds and not be in such a hurry all the time. To go on with Mr. Hank. If you dont like us Texans, you can leave. Maybe you could move north, way north, like.......Alaska. Maybe they are a little more nice to you.

Why dont we have signs that warn or caution drivers of farm equipment on the highways like they do with the deer, low water and the one that really gets me guardrail damage.I farm on FM 116 and have to really keep an eye out all the time for the idots from TDC who have no respect when it comes to driving just a matter of time before a bad one happens out there

Hank of Hewitt, it is obvious you are not from here. If you don't like it here, there are several highways that can take you else where. Society today is me, me, me so don't go stereotyping Texans! Hand's free devices while driving and no texting please people!!!

8:30pm,dark, slow moving vehicle/tractor on major hwy. This is a set up for an accident. Person passing may not have had time to brake for smv or time to do anything but take evasive action to keep from hitting what was directly in front of him. I was sitting in the backed up traffic not knowing exactly what was going on and praying no lives would be lost. Please don't judge those involved, it's not our job.

@ HANK... Hahahahahah... Bahahahahahah... I like you hank. Your comment is so true. Unfortunately I cant even go get a bite to eat at lunch without some bean head cutting me off or having to lock up his/her brakes behind me becuase he/she aint paying attention. This is an unfortunate situation and my prayer go out to the ones involved and the families but dang people life is too short. There is no reason to have to drive STUPID. If you have to drive crazy to be somewhere on time then leave earlier. You ignorance really shows when you get behind the wheel =) Oh and have a whatever day! Bahahahahaha!!

Hank, if you don't like TEXAS go home I am sure that your clan would welcome you where ever you are from. Really narrow minded thinking on your part. It always makes me laugh when someone moves here and then does nothing but grip about it. Leave we will be glad to see your tail lights as they leave!
