GATESVILLE (February 13, 2013)--A Gatesville man was sentenced Wednesday after he pleaded guilty earlier to possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

U.S. District Judge Walter S. Smith, Jr., sentenced Brandon Christopher Taylor to time served, and ordered him to pay a $1,000 fine and a $100 in special assessment to the court.

Taylor was arrested June 26, 2012, after Coryell County Sheriff's deputies who were working on a drug task force arranged to make a drug buy from two men who were sitting in a pick up truck in a parking lot.

When a deputy approached the truck and spoke to the driver and his passenger through an open window, he was able to see several plastic bags that contained what the deputy believed to be cocaine.

The deputy returned to his car under the guise of getting his money and signaled to other officers to surround the truck.

The driver noticed the presence of law officers and ran from his truck, but was caught s short time later.

Melvin Stephone Grey also was arrested at the time and earlier was sentenced to serve 30 months on count 1 and 5 years on count 2 on the charge of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute.

Smith also ordered Grey to serve the sentences consecutively, ordered him to serve 3 years on supervised release on each count concurrently, imposed a $1,000 fine and required Grey to pay $200 in special assessment to the court.
