Gatesville: Resident Selected As Excellence In Agriculture Finalist

GATESVILLE (November 16, 2012)--Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) has selected the finalists for this year’s Excellence in Agriculture contest.

Ryan and Santanna Bay of Gatesville are one of them along with Joe Barbour of Florence and Dana Joy of Plainview.

The award recognizes young men and women who are involved in agriculture but do not earn their primary income from a farm or ranch enterprise.

Ryan Bay, 28, and Santanna Bay, 27, own and operate Coryell Feed and Supply in Gatesville and assist people with basic animal health issues. They also maintain a small herd of cattle and a pecan orchard.

The couple has one son.

Joe Barbour, 25, of Florence, is an agriculture science teacher at Florence High School where he also serves as the director of the meat science program. He owns several hundred head of cattle in the Texas panhandle.

The Joy family, of Plainview, own and operate Tri-Star Chemical providing herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and agronomic advice to farmers and ranchers.

The winner will be announced at the TFB annual meeting in Waco December 1-3.

The winner will receive a $5,000 cash award from Farm Credit, an Arctic Cat 500 4X4 provided by Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company and a plaque and belt buckle representative of the award.

They will also receive an expense-paid trip to represent Texas at the national competition in Nashville in January.

Runners-up will receive a pair of Justin Boots and a $200 power tool, courtesy of Grainger.
