CENTRAL TEXAS (November 26, 2012)--Residents all across Central Texas are being asked to donate a pair of gently-used or new shoes to a local child in need.
From December 1-15, Schlotzsky’s sandwich restaurants will assist Communities in Schools (CIS) by providing conveniently located drop-off spots at Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, Belton and Temple locations.
Donations will also be accepted at all First National Bank locations in Killeen, Harker Heights and Copperas Cove and all Union State Banks in Killeen, Harker Heights and Florence.
Shoes are needed for all sizes of feet and all ages.
CIS hopes to collect more than 600 pairs of shoes as they say the need this year is greater than last year.
Last year’s donations provided 600 pairs of shoes to children throughout the community.
According to CIS Executive Director Mary Barr, the children who are registered for the program either do not have shoes that fit or they are badly worn out.
In addition to the listed drop-off sites, the CIS Central Texas Office will also serve as a donation site, located a 4520 E. Central Expressway, Ste. 106 in Killeen.
Monetary donations will also be accepted so that children whose shoe size is not available will still get a pair of shoes.
CIS is a local, nonprofit organization that provides food support, clothing assistance and other necessities to underprivileged children in an effort to improve their school performance and overall health.
“It’s amazing how much a simple pair of shoes will do for a child’s self-esteem,” Barr said.
