HARKER HEIGHTS (October 15, 2012)--Communities In Schools (CIS) of Greater Central Texas will receive a Community Partnership Award for Distinguished Service to Texas Veterans.
The nonprofit organization permanently housed on school campuses offers children of military families assistance with emotional support, homework help, counseling and if necessary, food, clothing, supplies, eye glasses and other needs.
The award from the Texas Veterans Commission signifies exceptional administration of the Fund for Veterans’ Assistance Grant and distinguished services to veterans and their families.
A report released by CIS reveals highly successful outcomes of military dependent children individually case-managed by the organization.
100 percent of students remained in school, 97 percent improved in behavior and 95 percent improved in attendance.
93 percent of military children improved in academics while 91 percent were promoted.
The ceremony will take place Wednesday at the Parish Center of St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church.
