HARKER HEIGHTS (January 21, 2013)--Lemonade Day organizers are gearing up for the big day in May and are holding two volunteer meetings this week for anyone interested in participating in the community event.

Lemonade Day was created in 2007 in Houston and is a free experiential learning program that teaches youth how to start, own and operate their own lemonade stand.

Each child that registers receives a backpack with an entrepreneur workbook that teaches them the 14 lessons of Lemonade Day like creating budgets, setting profit-making goals, serving customers, repaying investors, and giving back to the community.

The young entrepreneurs keep all the money they make and are encouraged to spend some, save some and share some.

Volunteers are needed to help make Lemonade Day a success across Central Texas and two volunteer meetings are scheduled for this week.

The first meeting will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Harker Heights Activity Center on Indian Trail.

The second meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, also held at the activity center.

The meetings are expected to last one hour.

Lemonade Day is held every year on May 5.
