HILL COUNTY (September 17, 2012)--A new speed limit of 75 mph has been instituted on a section of I-35 that runs through Hill County.
The changes have been enacted about two miles north of FM 1304 on the northbound side, north through Hillsboro and north to the Ellis County Line (I-35E).
On the southbound side, the new speed extends on I-35W from the Johnson County line (near Itasca) to .5 miles north of FM 1304, a TxDOT spokesperson said.
Approximately 35 miles of I-35 are now set at 75 mph, including the stretch of interstate that was previously approved at that speed.
Speed limits on the areas of I-35 still under construction will be set after the completion of the work and traffic studies are conducted.
Tickets received in work zones when workers are present result in twice the normal traffic fines, a spokesperson said.
