HILLSBORO (August 3, 2012)--The annual National Night Out event, sponsored by the Hillsboro Police Department, will coincide with the dedication of the renovated Hillsboro City Park Tuesday.
Beginning at 6 p.m., the city officials will hold an official dedication of the newly renovated city park, which includes 20 acres of walking paths, a creek and a "musical park."
The National Night Out event will follow, ending at 9 p.m., and will feature inflatables, rain area, barrel train, air-ambulance displays, fire trucks and free food, organizers said.
There will also be live musical entertainment.
The annual event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for anti-crime programs, strengthen police and community partnerships and to send a message to criminals to let them know the neighborhood stands in unity against crime.
Residents are encouraged to attend and should turn on outside lights and lock their doors before heading out, police said.
