HILLSBORO (September 6, 2012)--The City of Hillsboro has set a tentative date for the next round of mosquito spraying in light of the West Nile virus.

The city had their first spraying Tuesday.

Much of Hill County including Whitney, Itasca and Covington began spraying as a precautionary measure.

The second spraying must be conducted within three to ten days to destroy any larvae.

So far there have been at least two confirmed cases of the virus reported in the county.

Omega Mist Mac will be used for both sprayings and is considered a pet-friendly and environmentally-friendly product.

The spraying will be conducted Monday, or Tuesday in the case of inclement weather.

According to the city website, residents should take precautions of their own by getting rid of standing water, emptying plastic pools when not in use, cleaning clogged roof gutters, and consistently changing the water in bird baths.

Also, residents, especially children and the elderly, should apply insect repellent that contains DEET whenever going outside.

People over the age of 50 are most susceptible to the virus as well as young children with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms can include muscular aches and skin rashes.

There is currently no vaccine for the virus.
