HILLSBORO (August 9, 2012)--The Hill College Lady Rebels have started practice for the 2012 season.
They finished last season with a 15-24 record and tied for second in conference with a 5-5 record.
Four returning sophomores, including the team’s top three leaders in kills, Phyllicia Cross, Camryn Kazmierski, and Cayleigh Drake, will anchor this year’s squad.
"We're confident about this season," Drake said.
"We have been working hard in the offseason to stay in shape, and we ask that the community come and watch some good volleyball play."
Newcomers include sophomore transfer Rebecca Moustapha and lefty freshman Tammy Leranth.
Moustapha, the 6-foot-3 middle blocker from Houston, had 187 kills and 43 blocks as a freshman at Frank Phillips College in 2011.
Leranth, the 6-foot-1 right-side hitter, brings height and athleticism to the 2012 squad.
"This year we will be more athletic, physical, and have height (four players 6-feet or taller) that we haven't had in previous years," said third-year Head Coach Jeremiah Tiffin.
"We have upgraded many positions, and as long as we play defense, we will be successful."
The Lady Rebels will open their season in the Lady Bears Invitational Aug. 24 and Aug. 25 at Brookhaven College in Dallas.
Their first home game will be against Blinn College at 6 p.m. on Aug. 28.
