FORT HOOD (November 3, 2012)--Officials at Fort Hood's Darnall Army Medical Center say they have noticed an increase in babies being delivered in the facility in the past few months.

About 10 babies are born daily in the Women's Health Clinic lately, as compared to about seven daily in previous months.

"In the last couple of months, our numbers have been much greater than we have seen just about a year ago with folks coming home right around Christmas, so we've been very busy both in clinic and labor and delivery," said midwife Kristyn Leftridge.

Officials believe it is because Fort Hood is full of troops again, thanks to the withdraw from Iraq.

Those homecomings, in many cases, lead to even more special moments.

"When we come back on deployment, we like to spend time with our spouses," said Maxine O'Neill, an active-duty mom.

"Some times we end up with little bundles."

In response to the baby boom and an increased interest in pregnancy and health information for moms and babies, the Women's Health Clinic hosted a baby expo for the first time this weekend.

"It's different for everyone, and every birth story is different," said soon-to-be Army mom Alicia Stevens.

The event aims to help moms, old and new, prepare for their child's birth.

Even experienced mothers like O'neill, who is pregnant with her third child, continues to learn and find helpful information from others on post.

"I like on post because being on active duty, my NCO's know where I am," O'Neill said.

"We know that the army doctors will take care of us."

Local vendors and the medical staff members were on hand to talk about pregnancy, labor and delivery, child safety and more.

Army moms say no matter how baby babies they've had, they can always use each other for support.
