Fort Hood’s Economic Impact Totaled $25.3 Billion In Fiscal 2011

AUSTIN (December 6, 2012)—Fort Hood had a $25.3 billion economic impact on Texas in fiscal 2011, according to an analysis that the state’s comptroller, Susan Combs, released Thursday.

The analysis attributes 68,942 jobs directly to Fort Hood operations in fiscal 2011, nearly 2,000 more than in fiscal 2007, and it says Fort Hood is indirectly responsible for another 214,344 jobs throughout Texas

Fort Hood’s payroll for troops and civilian workers totaled more than $3.14 billion in fiscal 2011, and the post paid more than $514 million to contractors and more than $3.86 billion to retired soldiers, the analysis said.

“Fort Hood’s importance to Texas goes beyond the significant role it plays in our nation’s security,” Combs said.

“Fort Hood is an economic engine that helps growth in Texas. Projects at the installation and surrounding communities help bring investment and jobs to the Central Texas region. Those communities also benefit from services and industries that cater to the large number of soldiers and their Families who call Fort Hood home,” she said.
