FORT HOOD (October 19, 2012)--Friday marked the opening of Hood Stadium on post at Fort Hood.

The multi-million dollar complex will host its first high school football game Friday night between and Harker Heights and Shoemaker high schools.

The new Hood Stadium seats 5,500 in its bleacher section on the west side of the field.

Killeen ISD officials said Leo Buckley Stadium in Killeen seats 6,600 people, but said they are confident that there won't be a problem with seating at Hood Stadium.

Fort Hood Director of Public Works Brian Dosa said officials chose to put all the seating on one side of the field so that fans could have a better view from a higher perspective and the press box could also be in a better location.

KISD Superintendent Robert Muller said the district does want to continue the partnership with Fort Hood and could consider working to get additional seating on the other side of the field.

While the football field was completed, crews are still working on four softball fields and a stage for entertainment events.

There is a parking lot with 1,000 spaces, and overflow parking has been made available in the nearby Clear Creek Exchange and Community Events Center parking lots.

Those attending Friday's football game between Harker Heights and Shoemaker high schools will need to follow Fort Hood procedures.

Spectators driving privately owned vehicles will need to enter through the Clear Creek Gate and have official identification.

An adult may vouch for anyone younger than 18.

All non-privately-owned vehicles should enter through the Clarke Road Gate and will also need proper identification.

Concealed handguns are not allowed on post and spectators will only be allowed to drive to and from the game site.

Drivers will not be allowed to drop off at the stadium, only at the Fort Hood Commissary on Clear Creek Road, a Fort Hood spokesperson said.

A KISD school bus will offer transportation to and from the game at the commissary parking lot every 15 minutes before, during and after the game.

The game is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Fort Hood Stadium.
