KILLEEN (October 26, 2012)--A Killeen man and woman pleaded guilty Thursday in Waco's federal court to counterfeiting $5 bills.

U.S. District Judge Walter S. Smith, Jr., set Joshua Charles Whaley and Misty Nicole Walls for sentencing on Dec. 19.

A federal court documents says beginning on May 18 a Killeen police detective began an investigation into counterfeiting after the officer arrested an individual who was trying to buy methamphetamine with counterfeit bills.

The informant said he had been to a house in Killeen where a man told him he would teach him how to make counterfeit $5 bills.

The informant showed the detective the location of the house on a map and provided a description of the man who offered to teach him how to make counterfeit bills.

Law enforcement officers went by the home to verify the location and observed the vehicles that the informant had described would be there.

While there the officers retrieved some sheets of paper from trash bins in front of the home that had bills printed on them.

Some of the serial numbers on the bills taken from the trashcans matched serial numbers on the bills that had been used to try to buy the methamphetamine.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the address and during a search of the residence recovered a printer/scanner/copier with a genuine Federal Reserve Note taped on the glass and counterfeit currency that was cut to size.
