KILLEEN (December 19, 2012)--The Killeen Police Department will be increasing the number of officers patrolling during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

That’s because there’s usually more traffic and more accidents this time of year, Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said.

"It is the officers' goal to remove impaired drivers from the roadways and prevent potential injuries and loss of life to local drivers and holiday travelers," Smith said.

Drivers are encouraged to observe the posted speed limits and to avoid drinking and driving for their own safety and the safety of others.
