Killeen (November 12, 2012)--Texas has been ranked #1 for business by the latest survey from "Area Development," a publication covering site selection and facility planning.

The rankings were based on each state's business environment, cost of doing business, incentive programs and more.

Over 200,000 private-sector jobs were added over the last year, and many of those were in Central Texas.

It doesn't look like the numbers are decreasing any time soon.

"We've always for the last 30 or 40 years been one of the largest and growing communities in the nation, and we'll continue to do that," said Killeen Mayor Pro Tem Michael Lower.

Businesses like Noodles and Company, based in Colorado, are taking advantage of Central Texas' opportunities for growth.

"We figured this would be a great town for us to come to, Killeen, Fort Hood and lots of moms and families and kids, and that's what we specialize in," said Nick Filler, marketing manager for Noodles and Company.

Filler said the company's expansion also gravitated toward the people in Central Texas that would eat in its restaurants.

"We thought that diversity in our menu paired really nicely with the diversity in the community in Killeen, so that's one of the reasons we wanted to build in this market," Filler added.

Filler said not only is the clientelle in Central Texas, but the job market is also found here.

"The staff that we hired, everybody back here is doing a great job, super warm and friendly," Filler said.

"Killeen has great, nice people, and we hired good ones to serve the community members."

"It's a win-win situation," Lower said.
