KILLEEN (December 19, 2012)—A woman found dead early Tuesday in a fire-damaged house in Killeen was identified Wednesday as Robin Ann Hetherington, 56.

A Killeen police officer who was patrolling the area near 2709 Taft Street early Tuesday found the body after he heard a fire alarm coming from inside the home and went to investigate.

As he looked in a window he saw fire damage and the woman's body lying on the floor.

It’s not clear how the woman died.

A preliminary autopsy report returned to Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke says only that the cause and manner of death both are pending.

The audible fire alarm likely is the only reason police found a woman's body as quickly as they did.

Information released by the Killeen fire marshal on Wednesday shows that by the time officers were alerted to the incident the fire was out and there was no more smoke inside the home.

Killeen fire investigator Cory Hall said Wednesday he has no idea how the fire started or what made the home's ADT alarm system sound in the first place, but said the alarm is the only reason police found a woman's body as quickly as they did.

The house sustained smoke damage throughout and a film of black soot covered the floors, walls and ceiling.

The fire likely started in the living room, Hall said, but there was no indication of fire visible from outside the home.

Hall would not say where inside the home the body was found.

Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith would not say if officers suspect foul play and would not discuss how the woman may have died, nor would Smith say if any weapons were found.

The garage door was open during the initial investigation and there were no vehicles in the driveway.
