LOMETA (January 11, 2013)--A former Lometa bank employee was set to plead guilty Tuesday in federal court in Austin to stealing money from the bank where she worked.

Janet Watson, who worked at First State Bank Central Texas' Lometa branch, was listed on Federal Magistrate Judge Andrew W. Austin's docket for formal arraignment and a guilty plea.

U.S. Attorney's Office spokesman Daryl Fields said Watson was named on Sept. 17, 2012 in an information, which is a formal charge document, that alleged that between August 2009 and December 2011 the former bank employee stole more than $34,400 from the branch bank.

Federal prosecutors filed the information rather than take the case to federal grand jury for indictment.

Watson has been free on bond since her initial appearance before Judge Austin on Sept. 27.

Federal sentencing guidelines prescribe a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $250,000 if Watson is convicted.
