LAMPASAS (October 23, 2012)--The Lampasas City Council awarded J Jacobs Construction the task of constructing a new fire station, to be located at 1107 E. Fourth Street.

Monday night, both the Lampasas County Commissioners Court and the city council accepted the bid for $1,063,514.00.

The city has set a budget of $1.2 million which includes $400,000 from the county, not to be exceeded.

Both entities will share the city-owned two-story facility that would have at least twice as many bays, allowing two trucks to share one bay, as well as an administration office, separate sleeping areas for men and women, a kitchen, a laundry room, and a workout area.

According to a 40-year agreement made earlier this year, county commissioners would pay up to $400,000 toward the construction costs and some of the possible future repairs to the building.

Roughly $460,000 of the county's money was left over from tax notes and a county bond issued to build annexes in downtown Lampasas, County Auditor Jack Clark said earlier this year.

County officials said the county would get a pro-rated share of the building if it sells.

The fire station is expected to be completed sometime next year.

Water and sewer lines have already been installed.
