LAMPASAS (January 22, 2013)--Rollins Brook Hospital is celebrating the completion of a helicopter landing pad in their own backyard on Wednesday.
The project has been a longtime coming in the minds of those who helped it come to fruition.
Before Wednesday, patients in need of emergency medical assistance would have to be picked up from the local airport before being transported to the hospital.
The new landing pad eliminates time wasted and doctors at the hospital are hopeful it will help save lives.
The project was funded by additional grant money as well as contributions from local individuals.
The hospital was recently designated as a Level 4 Trauma Center meaning it provides more services and is therefore eligible for additional grants.
Lights surrounding the pad will allow helicopters to land in daytime or nighttime and a fly-in demonstration will get underway for the public on Wednesday at the northeast side of the hospital.
The celebration is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
