LAMPASAS (February 19, 2013)--A longtime vision for the Lampasas Public Library will finally come to fruition after the Library Foundation of Lampasas agreed this week on a major renovation project.
After spending nearly 15 years raising money for a library makeover, foundation members are ready to put the funds to use.
The project will include adding 700 square feet to house genealogy and nonfiction books, adding a meeting room and enlarging staff workspace and offices.
Other enhancements include a landscaping makeover at the entrance, easily-accessible handicapped bathrooms, kitchen improvements, expanded parking and a mural to be painted on the east wall.
A total estimate of the project has not yet been released, however, Library Foundation of Lampasas President Sheryl Hausmann said Tuesday the foundation has enough money to fund the construction project.
The city has been asked to help pay for parking lot improvements and the replacement of an old roof.
The organization holds a biannual fundraiser that will provide for the furniture and fixtures in the library.
This year’s Texas’ Books and Boots Gala will bring in Austin American-Statesman Outdoors Columnist Mike Leggett on Thursday.
He will be the featured speaker at the event being held at Grace Fellowship Church.
About 220 tickets were purchased for the event which also includes a sit-down meal and musical entertainment.
Hausmann’s husband, David Hausmann, will provide the musical entertainment on his saxophone and keyboard.
Tickets were $25 per person and are now sold out.
A project start date has not yet been set.
