TEMPLE (October 3, 2012)--A Lampasas native will speak at Temple High School Thursday about the obstacles he had to overcome to be successful.

Jonathan Grant Brown has been invited to speak at the THS Auditorium at 7 p.m. during a Community Rally hosted by Gear Up.

Students and residents will have an opportunity to listen to Brown’s story, one of being left by his mother at a very young age while he was at the park with his brother.

After spending two days sleeping at the park, they were put in foster care where he remained through high school.

Brown became involved in a program called Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) at the recommendation of a teacher.

Another mentor, who knew his story, eventually offered Brown a free ride to college if he continued to share his story with area schools and remain a part of the AVID program.

Brown will talk to attendees about his experiences and the importance of choosing a good lifestyle.

Brown will also visit Lamar Middle School to speak to students there.
