PERRY (June 5, 2012)--A freight train struck a truck Tuesday afternoon along Highway 6 at Falls County Road 105 near Perry, sending the 15-year-old licensed driver of the pickup to an area hospital with cuts and bruises.

Falls county deputies and Marlin firefighters were sent at around 2:50 p.m. to the crossing about 4 miles south of Riesel where witnesses reported a truck had been struck by a freight train.

The teenager was headed east on CR 105 toward Highway 6 when he approached the crossing, authorities said.

He said he thought the train was farther off than it actually was.

The train, which stopped after hitting the truck, was blocking CR 105 Tuesday afternoon.
