MARLIN (September 12, 2012)--The City of Marlin Tuesday evening approved a $5.9 million loan from the Texas Water Development Board to improve the water system.
However, $1.2 million will be forgiven so the city will not have to pay it back, City Manager William McDonald said.
"The loan also has a low interest rate," McDonald added.
City officials voted to approve the loan that will be used to fix leaky pipes, damaged sewer systems and other issues.
The funds would be used to replace approximately three miles of water lines and to upgrade water meters.
"The next step to move forward is to close on the loan which we are hoping to do the first part of November, after that it's the engineering design," McDonald said.
About half of the loan is expected to go toward drinking water improvements while other funds will be spent on sewer system improvements.
