MCGREGOR (February 1, 2013)--Augustine Cantu Jimenez will stay in the McLennan County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond after a motion to lower his bond was denied Friday morning.

Jimenez is held on a charge of murder in connection with a November 2012 incident outside a restaurant in McGregor that left Charles Darrell McKenzie, 49, of McGregor, dead from several stab wounds, McGregor police Chief Steve Foster said.

Judge Ralph Strother in 19th District Court heard the request Friday from Jimenez's lawyers but refused to lower the bond.

The McLennan County Grand Jury returned a murder indictment against Jimenez on Jan. 9.

Police officers arrived just after 12:10 a.m. on Nov. 10, 2012 at Doc's Saloon on Main Street to find McKenzie suffering stab wounds.

He was pronounced dead at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco.

Jimenez, whom police initially identified as Augustine Jimenez Gurrero, was arrested at the McGregor Police Department where he and an injured woman were found in the parking lot.

The woman, Paula Rios, had also been stabbed.

She was flown to Scott & White Hospital in Temple for treatment.
