MEXIA (November 14, 2012)--Mexia firefighters were busy Tuesday afternoon battling a barn fire and then a mobile home fire that broke out separately, but only a short time apart.

Mexia Fire Chief Clayton Shivers said firefighters were sent at around 5 p.m. Tuesday to a location on private road 5223 where the first units on the scene found a small barn engulfed in flames.

Shivers said firefighters had to use brush trucks to get to the fire because the condition of the road was so poor their pumpers could not drive over it.

It took firefighters only a few minutes to douse the fire because the barn had virtually burned to the ground before they arrived.

No one was hurt.

Then at about 8 p.m. firefighters were sent to a structure fire at 506 South Bonham Street where the first units found a mobile home engulfed, Shivers said.

A family lives at the home but they were not at home at the time of the fire and he has so far not been able to contact them.

No one was injured.

Shivers said fire units cleared the scene at about 10 p.m.

The mobile home fire started in a back bedroom, Shivers said.

Shivers said he has not determined the cause.
