MEXIA (May 28, 2012)--The Mexia ISD school board is seeking applicants to fill the new position of school community liaison, a position that will offer help to parents of students who repeatedly skip class or school.
The new position was approved last week and the listing can be found on job websites.
The position will serve as an early warning to parents, but is not intended to force action on the student, a Mexia ISD spokesperson said.
The liaison will instead work in the community to offer guidance and motivation to emphasize the importance of education.
The need for the position was realized when the school district noticed a rising number of students transferring out of the district, a spokesperson said.
The school board hopes that by having someone represent the community members, attendance in schools will increase.
The position is full-time and teacher certification is required.
