MEXIA (July 18, 2012)—A man who called 911 for help after he overdosed on prescription drugs will face charges stemming from the robbery of a Mexia convenience store after he’s released from a Waco hospital, police said.
The robbery was reported at around 1 a.m. Wednesday at a Cefco store on State Highway 14 and Tyler Street.
The clerk described the robber as an older man with a "scraggly" beard and said he approached the counter, pulled a gun and demanded money from the cash register.
The clerk identified the man as a regular customer who had been in the store earlier Tuesday night and made a purchase.
Officers found the man Wednesday morning after he called 911 and asked for help, saying he had taken an overdose of prescription medication.
As officers arrived at his house they say the man stepped outside and took a large amount of medication, police said.
He was flown from Mexia to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco.
Police say formal charges are pending.
