TEMPLE (December 28, 2012) --- Sixteen families that included more than sixty children in Temple were able to have a merrier Christmas this year thanks to the community support of the Temple Police Department's program called Operation Blue Santa.
Operation Blue Santa provided presents and necessities to those in need. This year the packages included toys, clothing, toiletries, and a gift card for a Christmas meal.
The program was brought back this year after a 15-year break after local social service agencies brought the need to TPD's attention.
Christopher Wilcox with the Temple Police Department said the presents were delivered last Friday.
He said one delivery to a home with six children made a lasting impression on him.
"I remember entering the house to find that there was not a single present under the tree. I remember the look of anxiety in the mother's eyes, and watched it transform into joy when she realized that her babies were going to have a Christmas," Wilcox said.
Wilcox said Operation Blue Santa is a program the department hopes to continue next year with the help and support from all the officers and employees of TPD and citizens who donate their time and money.
