TEMPLE (March 4, 2013)—A chase that started after an attempted traffic stop Monday morning on Interstate 35 in Temple and ended when officers were forced to use a stun gun to subdue the driver after the pursuit ended led to a brief lockdown at a local middle school, police said.
Travis Middle School was locked down for only about 10 minutes Monday morning after the pursuit ended nearby.
The chase started at around 7:50 a.m. Monday when a Temple officer saw a vehicle that was being driven recklessly on the northbound interstate.
The driver exited onto Southwest H.K. Dodgen Loop and then sped off in an attempt to elude officers, police said.
The 10-minute pursuit ended when the fleeing driver stopped at Avenue R and South 21st Street.
When officers tried to remove the man from the car, however, he resisted and a stun gun was used to subdue him, police said.
Officers arrested Thomas Kiefer, 34, of Killeen, who was the only occupant of the car, was arrested and was taken to the Bell County Jail where he was facing a list of charges Monday afternoon including driving while license invalid, resisting arrest and evading arrest with a motor vehicle.
