TEMPLE (May 6, 2013)--The City of Temple in partnership with Leadership Temple are bringing the first public dog park, currently under construction, to the city.
"We are excited to announce that the first public dog park will soon be open in Temple," Leadership Temple 2012 Class Member Ashley Williams said. "We wanted to give back to the community and provide something new to the area."
The new dog park is being made possible due to several donations and fundraising events, Williams said.
"The concept of a dog park has been discussed several times over the years but funding has not been available for this sort of project," Parks and Leisure Services Director Ken Cicora said. "Thanks to the support of and determination of Leadership Temple to secure the funds and gather community support, we can finally provide a dog park for our community."
A fenced one acre section for large dogs and a half acre section for small dogs will be the layout for the new dog park.
The park will be located in Lions Park and be fully accessible.
The park is expected to be completed by mid-late June.
