Local Doctor Indicted In Deadly Highway Crash

CAMERON (August 16, 2013)—A Temple physician has been indicted by a Milam County Grand Jury in connection with the death of a College Station nurse who died in a February traffic accident in Milam County.

Dr. Allan Eugene Nickel, 64, was charged with manslaughter in connection with a Feb. 8 highway crash that left Kirsten Salerno, 28, a nurse from College Station, dead.

Salerno, the wife of Texas A&M Consolidated High School soccer coach Stefano Salerno, died a two-vehicle crash on a rural highway near Cameron.

Salerno and his wife are both originally from Malta.

DPS troopers say Kirsten Salerno was driving a 2007 Toyota sedan west on FM 485 near Milam County Road 132 when an eastbound Toyota crossed the centerline and struck her car on the driver's side.

Nickel suffered facial injuries in the crash and was taken to Scott & White Hospital.
