TEMPLE (October 17, 2012)—A collision late Tuesday night between a pickup truck and a passenger car at a Temple intersection sent five people to Scott & White Hospital, one of whom died.
Police Wednesday identified the dead man as John Jarrett Colton Carter, 26, of Gatesville, who was driving the passenger car.
The names of the other four victims weren’t immediately released.
The accident happened at around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Airport Road and Research Parkway where a Dodge passenger car in which Carter and a woman were northbound on Research collided with a pickup truck in which two men and a woman were headed west on Airport.
“Witnesses to the crash reported that a red 2-door Dodge passenger car, occupied by one male and one female, was traveling northbound on Research Parkway at “a high rate of speed” when it failed to obey the stop sign at the intersection of the two roadways,” police said in a press release Wednesday morning.
Several of the victims were ejected in the crash, police said.
The two men in the pickup suffered serious injuries and the woman suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.
The woman who was riding in the passenger car with Carter was also seriously injured.
“Alcohol is being considered one of the contributing factors in the crash,” police said.
The Temple Police Department Traffic Unit’s Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating.
