HOLLAND (October 29, 2012)--Two 18-wheelers collided head-on Monday morning about two miles north of Holland on State Highway 95 and one of them burst into flames.
SH 95 was closed to traffic from FM 1123 to Roberts Road at around 9:15 a.m. Monday while firefighters doused the flames.
Holland’s fire chief said he heard the crash from his home, looked out a window and saw heavy black smoke coming from the direction of the crash.
Diesel fuel that leaked from the burning truck was running down the roadway and burning as it inched toward the other truck that was about 100 yards away.
The second truck was leaking diesel fuel, as well, but it did not catch fire.
Both drivers were walking around at the scene but the driver of the truck that caught fire was taken by ambulance to Scott & White Hospital, in Temple, for treatment of minor injuries, the chief said.
Road crews were busy trying to clear the roadway of debris left after the crash.
Firefighters from Holland, Little River and Bartlett, along with a HazMat unit from Temple Fire and Rescue were at the scene.
A Texas Department of Transportation crew also was there assessing damage to the roadway.
