TEMPLE (December 12, 2012)—Joseph Wayne Mills, 21, of Belton and Carl Emmons Enderby, 22, of Temple, have been charged with theft over $1,500, but under $20,000 in connection with what police say was a staged robbery in October at a local Family Dollar store, Temple police said Wednesday.

Warrants were issued for the two on Dec. 5.

Police arrested Enderby on Monday and he remained in the Bell County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $75,000 bond.

Mills remained at large Wednesday.

Enderby was the manager of the store and Mills was the clerk on duty on Oct. 7 when police responded to a report that a man with a gun held up an employee outside the business at 508 West Adams Ave.

The employee told officers he was getting into his car in the store’s parking lot to drive to a local bank to deposit the store’s receipts when a man who was already in the vehicle pointed a handgun at him and ordered him to get in and drive away from the building.

The clerk told officers he was forced to drive the robber away from the store, and said at some point the man struck him in the head with the handgun.

The employee told officers the gunman got out of the vehicle near the intersection of N. 13th St. and W. French Ave., and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
