TEMPLE (January 15, 2013) --- A Temple concealed handgun license instructor says he’s seen an increase in the number of local teachers interested in CHLs in the wake of the deadly December school shooting rampage in Newtown, Conn.

In response to the increase, Big Iron CHL Instructor Johnny Price said he has put together a class for local teachers to qualify for their CHL for free.

Price said he hopes to give teachers training that could allow them to approach any dangerous situation and come out alive.

"That's what our training does its ways to handle different situations, most of them you hope nonviolently, without ever having to pull a handgun and especially without having to pull the trigger; we try to teach using de-escalation techniques," Price said.

The class will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 20 at Little River- Academy High School at 601 East Main St.
