TEMPLE (February 5, 2013) ---Businesses in Temple are cracking down on people trying to pass counterfeit cash.
On Monday a man tried to give a clerk at The Point Liquor Store on West Adams Avenue a counterfeit $20 bill.
Police said the clerk was able to tell the bill was fake and refused to accept it.
Police interviewed the man who tried to use the $20 bill and say they’re still trying to determine whether he knew it was counterfeit.
"We're just very proud of our retail shops for showing that they are stepping up their efforts to detect it and stop it from getting into circulation," said Temple police Cpl. Christopher Wilcox.
The owner of Point Liquor said he's recently seen counterfeit bills passed at some of his liquor stores in Killeen.
Temple police began urging businesses to keep an eye out for these fake bills last week after cases of fake money and hot checks increased four times compared to last month.
