TEMPLE (December 11, 2012) --- A group of supporters pushing for revitalization and redevelopment in East Temple announced it will hold a community meeting on Dec. 18.

East Temple is one of the oldest parts of the city, but there are more than 600 vacant lots in the area.

Temple College, The Economic Development Corporation in Temple, and city officials have taken part in the past community meetings.

Supporters say they hope the meetings will help spark new opportunities for jobs and home ownership in the area.

"I grew up in East Temple right off South Main so I've seen a lot of changes and I'd rather look at what are the opportunities that the East Temple brings because it's the older part of town and has been an area where there's been a lot of changes and people moving from the area," Temple City Councilmember Judy Morales said.

The next community meeting is at 6 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Wheatley Alternative Education Center on East Avenue D in Temple.
